Sewer Repair & Replacement in Central Maryland

We Camera It First. Then We Fix It Right.

A sewer line that’s cracked, collapsed, or invaded by tree roots won’t get better with another drain cleaning. It needs repair or replacement. Bailey Bros. diagnoses the problem with a sewer camera, shows you what’s wrong on screen, and fixes it with the right method for the situation. Serving homes and businesses across Harford County, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County, Howard County, and Baltimore City.

Not sure which service you need?

Sewer Main Installation Is One of Our Most-Requested Services

The EPA estimates that 23,000 to 75,000 sanitary sewer overflow events occur in the United States every year, and blockages from grease, debris, and tree roots are the leading cause. When those blockages damage the pipe itself, cleaning alone won’t solve the problem. The pipe needs to be repaired or replaced.

According to U.S. Census data, Baltimore City’s median home construction year is 1948 and Baltimore County’s is 1973. That means a significant portion of the sewer infrastructure across Central Maryland is 50 years old or more, built with clay, cast iron, or Orangeburg pipe that’s reaching the end of its useful life.

Bailey Bros. Plumbing & Drain Services handles sewer repair, sewer replacement, and sewer main installation for residential and commercial properties across Central Maryland. We use both traditional excavation and trenchless sewer repair methods, and we camera every line before recommending major work. Sewer main installation is one of our most-requested services and one we’ve built a strong reputation around. Every job is backed by a 1-year labor warranty. Save $350 off sewer line cleaning this season. Financing is available through Wisetack.

Signs Sewer Line Needs Repair or Replacement

Sewer Backs Up Repeatedly Despite Cleaning

If you've had the main line cleared more than once in the past year and the backups keep coming, the pipe itself is the problem. Tree roots grow back into cracked joints, bellied sections trap debris in the same spot, and deteriorating pipe walls collect buildup faster than a healthy line. Repeated cleaning is treating the symptom, not the cause.

Raw Sewage Smell in the Yard

A sewer smell outside the house, especially near the sewer line path, usually means the pipe is cracked or a joint has separated, allowing sewage to seep into the surrounding soil. The smell gets stronger in warm weather as the ground heats up.

Wet Spot in the Yard Over the Sewer Line

A consistently soggy area along the sewer line path, especially one that's greener than the surrounding grass, is a sign that sewage is leaking from the pipe and saturating the soil. Left alone, this can contaminate groundwater and worsen until the line collapses.

Multiple Drains Back Up at the Same Time

When more than one fixture in the house backs up simultaneously, the blockage is in the main sewer line. If camera inspection reveals a cracked, collapsed, or bellied section, the line needs structural repair, not just another cleaning. If sewage has entered the home, sewer backup cleanup is also needed.

Slow Drains Throughout the House That Don't Respond to Cleaning

If all drains are sluggish and professional drain cleaning provides only temporary relief, the sewer line may be partially collapsed, bellied, or so deteriorated that buildup reforms immediately. A camera inspection shows exactly what's happening inside.

Camera Inspection Shows Structural Damage

If a camera inspection reveals cracks, breaks, offsets at joints, root invasion through pipe walls, a bellied section holding standing water, or a collapsed section, the pipe needs repair or replacement. The camera shows you exactly what we see so you can make an informed decision.

Sewer Repair & Replacement Methods

Traditional Sewer Excavation & Replacement

We dig down to the damaged pipe, remove the failed section or the entire line, and install a new pipe. This is the most common method for collapsed sewer lines, severely deteriorated clay or Orangeburg pipe, and situations where the line needs to be rerouted or upsized. Traditional excavation gives us full access to the pipe and the surrounding soil.

Trenchless Sewer Repair (Pipe Bursting)

Pipe bursting pulls a new pipe through the path of the old one, breaking the old pipe apart as the new one takes its place. It requires only two access points rather than a full trench, which saves landscaping, driveways, and time. Not every situation qualifies for trenchless, but when it does, it reduces cost and disruption.

Trenchless Sewer Lining (CIPP)

Cured-in-place pipe lining, also called CIPP or epoxy pipe lining, installs a resin-coated liner inside the existing pipe. The liner cures and hardens, creating a new pipe within the old one. This method works well for pipes with cracks, joint offsets, and minor root intrusion where the pipe is still structurally intact enough to support the liner.

Sewer Main Installation (New Line)

New construction, lot development, or a situation where the existing sewer line is beyond repair and needs to be replaced entirely. We install new sewer mains from the building to the municipal connection, including excavation, pipe installation, connection, backfill, and inspection. Sewer main installation is one of our specialties.

Why Bailey Bros. for Sewer Work

We Camera Every Line Before Recommending Work

We never recommend a sewer repair or replacement based on a guess. We run a camera through the line, show you what’s wrong on screen, and explain your options based on what we actually see. This approach saves homeowners money and builds trust.

Trenchless When Possible, Excavation When Necessary

Trenchless saves your yard, your driveway, and your budget. But it’s not right for every situation. A collapsed pipe can’t be lined. A line that needs to be rerouted can’t be burst in place. We assess every job honestly and recommend the method that solves the problem, not just the one that’s faster.

Sewer Main Installation Is Our Specialty

This isn’t a service we dabble in. Sewer main replacement and new sewer main installation are among our most-completed projects. Our team has the equipment, the experience, and the track record to handle sewer work at any depth and any complexity.

Financing for Major Sewer Projects

Sewer replacement is one of the most expensive residential plumbing jobs. Financing through Wisetack lets you choose the right fix for your home instead of settling for the cheapest option or deferring the work until the line fails completely.

What a Sewer Repair Project Looks Like

Every sewer repair starts with a camera inspection. We run a sewer camera through the line from the house to the municipal connection and record what we find. You see the footage on screen and we walk you through it: where the damage is, what caused it, how bad it is, and what your options are.

For targeted repairs, we excavate the damaged section, cut out the failed pipe, and install a new pipe with proper connections. For full replacements, we remove the entire line and install a new one from the house to the street. For trenchless projects, we set up access points at each end of the run and either burst the old pipe or install a cured-in-place liner, depending on the condition of the existing pipe.

After installation, we pressure test the new line, run a final camera to confirm the work, and schedule the inspection with the local authority. We handle the permit, the inspection coordination, and the backfill. If landscaping or hardscape were disturbed, we restore the surface to its pre-project condition.

For situations where the sewer backup has already caused water damage inside the home, we handle the full remediation in-house: extraction, demolition of contaminated materials, structural drying, and rebuild. One company for the sewer repair and the interior restoration.

Sewer Repair Questions

How much does sewer repair cost in Maryland?

Cost depends on the depth and location of the pipe, the length of the repair, and whether excavation or trenchless methods are used. A spot repair on a shallow line costs less than a full sewer main replacement under a driveway. We provide upfront pricing after a camera inspection. Financing is available through Wisetack.

Most residential sewer replacements take 1 to 3 days depending on the length of the run, the depth of the pipe, and the method used. Trenchless projects are often faster. We give you a realistic timeline before work begins.

Trenchless saves your landscaping and often costs less, but it’s not an option for every situation. Collapsed pipes, severely deteriorated lines, and situations requiring rerouting typically need traditional excavation. We assess every job and recommend the method that solves the problem.

Recurring backups despite repeated cleaning, tree roots that keep invading the line, a collapsed or bellied section visible on camera, or a line made of deteriorating clay or Orangeburg pipe are all signs that replacement is the better investment.

Cured-in-place pipe lining installs a resin-coated liner inside the existing pipe. The liner hardens and creates a new pipe within the old one. It works for pipes with cracks, joint offsets, and minor root intrusion where the pipe is still structurally intact.
