Blog & Plumbing Questions

How often should I have my plumbing inspected?

A general plumbing inspection every 1 to 2 years is a good practice, especially for homes over 20 years old. If you’re on a well or septic system, annual inspections are recommended.

Clogged drains and failing water heaters are our two most frequent service calls. Both are preventable with regular maintenance and early attention to warning signs.

If the problem involves the main sewer line, the water heater, gas lines, or anything behind walls or under slabs, call a professional. DIY is fine for a slow sink drain or a running toilet flapper. Anything beyond that risks making the problem worse.

Insulate exposed pipes in unheated areas like crawl spaces, garages, and attics. Let faucets drip during hard freezes. Keep cabinet doors open under sinks on exterior walls. If you’re leaving town, don’t set your heat below 55 degrees.

Age over 10 years, rusty water from the hot tap, popping noises, leaking from the bottom, or inconsistent heating are all signs. We walk through the decision in detail on the blog.

Over time, yes. Hard water causes mineral buildup inside pipes, water heaters, and fixtures, reducing efficiency and shortening their lifespan. A water softener solves it.
